Ancient Kicks: A History Of Soccer

Soccer is one of, if not the most popular sports in the world today.  Regardless of age, location, or race, soccer fans across the globe cheer on their favorite clubs with signature obnoxiousness and hooliganism.  But the real question is, where and when did such a sport actually come to be?  It is uncertain as to soccer’s actual time and place of invention, but it is well known that variations of the sport existed as long as 3000 years ago!

One such variation of the sport is recorded as being played in Japan around 1000 B.C., and there are even ancient texts from China describing a game resembling soccer between Japanese and Chinese teams in 50 B.C..   The Chinese conducted their variation of the sport with a leather ball filled with hair, and there was an actual soccer game played in Kyoto, Japan in 611 A.D.  The Romans even had a variation of soccer in their Olympics, in which each team had 27 players, two thirds of which had to be hospitalized after a 50 minute long match because competition was so fierce and brutal!  Although there are records of certain incidences of the game occurring, people of the time were not as concerned with recording soccer history as that of religion or war, and thus it is quite difficult to determine just how the sport spread across the globe.    Read more... Maryland Terrapins College Football Ticket

The Maryland Terrapins represents the University of Maryland in the intercollegiate football team in NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision, which was formerly known as Division I-A. The Maryland Terrapins is more popularly known as ‘the Terps’ and they most frequently contend within the Atlantic Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).

Originally, school’s athletic teams were known as ‘The Old Liners?. Since Maryland?s nickname was ‘Old Line State’. But then Curly Byrd suggested in 1932, that the name be changed to diamondback terrapin which is after a type of land-dwelling turtle, since Byrd spent his childhood in Chesapeake Bay, where the species is common. Then, to shorten the headlines in the newspaper, they started referring them as ?the Terps?. The abridged name remained and currently the official team name of the school. The school?s mascot is named Testudo, which is a diamondback terrapin. Testudo means ‘turtle’ in Latin. The word has been used as a scientific nomenclature in species related to the reptile like, the order Testudine and family Testudinidae. Furthermore, the name most probably came from the ancient Roman military scheme, in where soldiers completely enclose their infantry square with their shields in order to guard them from projectiles. What Every Woman Should Know About Football and Marriage

My best friend forever Megan, got married last year. Believe me, I tried to talk her out of it; Or I at least advised her to wait awhile longer before taking the plunge.

She was in love though, at least with the idea of marriage. Scott, her husband is also a long time friend of mine. In fact, I introduced the two.

After a three month world wind romance, they announced their engagement at a dinner party I was having, ironically, to deliver some good news of my own, but more on that later. Anyway, the short amount of time between the day they met and the day they became engaged, was not why I advised against the two tying the knot. It was the actual date of the wedding.

They were to be wed in just a few weeks and not one moment of their courtship had, or would have, fallen during football season.

American football is a rite of passage for most men. In fact, most men spend more time and effort developing their relationship with football than they would ever think to with their significant other. It’s just the way it works, and believe me, it is a deep, intimate and very personal relationship!
